Google is a brand that constantly pushes the bar and makes itself better than they already are. Google has started testing out a paid crowdsourcing services that is called “Task mate” in India as an attempt of improving their map services and bring more businesses online.
The App Description
The app is still on beta. In its description it clarifies that it is only available for selected testers with referral code for the time being. As per the tasks, this app offers simple tasks such as taking a photo, translating a sentence from English to your local language etc. The users will receive cash by linking an e-wallet to the app or by using the in-app payment partner in return.
Similarity with Local Guide on Google Map
Before jumping on further bifurcation of tasks, it feels that there is a need to mention about “Local Guide” on the Google map. Google Map already has a section of “Contribute”, where you could add photos, reviews, etc, for which you earned points on Google Play. Task mate seems to be the monetized and business-centric version for the same.
About The Tasks
Coming back to the tasks, the app offers two kinds of tasks, “Sitting” and “ “Field tasks”. Firstly the app will offer a variety of Field Tasks. It would include ones in which users will have to go “to the location shown in pin. Second is to take a photo of the shopfront once you’re there.”
The Sitting Tasks, on the other hand, will include things like transcribing sentences or recording sentences shown on the app. The listing doesn’t go into any further detail about the tasks. It is understood that the tasks are “simple,” and they will originate from “businesses around the world.” . This leads us to believe that the company may launch Task Mate in other regions in the future.
A Reddit post by a user also suggested that such Google service is now live in the country. “Google seems to be testing their new Task Mate app in India which pays you in Indian currency for completing tasks regarding Google app ecosystem (Currently invitation only)”.
How to get task mate invitation code
Google has not yet provided any official source for obtaining referral code so far. As the description says, it is limited to selected testers only and that you can obtain a referral code if they invite you.
